Saving the State Again: Turks Face the Challenge of European Governance (Kivanç Ulusoy, Ankara, 1-2 February 2005)

The conditions for Turkish membership in the EU are virtually of a revolutionary character in that they require fundamental change in the structure of government of the republican regime. Given this assessment of the radical character of the proposed reforms for EU membership, the challenge of EU membership is actually an effort of “saving the State”.
