OECD work on Cities

Policy dialogues on COVID-19 recovery and resilience in cities

  • What's the issue?

Since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, cities have been on the frontline both to relay nation-wide measures on the ground and provide laboratories for bottom-up and innovative recovery strategies. The crisis has exposed and often exacerbated longstanding structural challenges in cities, ranging from inequalities to climate-damaging practices. With the current momentum to accelerate the shift towards a new urban paradigm, recovery plans are offering an unprecedented opportunity to shape a more sustainable and inclusive future.

  • What can the OECD offer?

The OECD is conducting a series of policy dialogues with cities and regions to:

  • Guide cities and regions in shaping, implementing and monitoring effective recovery and resilience strategies;

  • Draw common lessons from international experiences of cities and facilitate peer-to-peer learning;

  • Provide targeted recommendations for each city.
