TALIS began in 2008 in 24 countries and economies, focusing on lower secondary education. TALIS 2013 covered 34 countries and economies, with an additional 4 countries and economies administering the survey in 2014, making a total of 38. In TALIS 2013, participants were also able to conduct the survey in their primary and upper secondary schools. Some countries and economies also chose to gain additional insights by conducting the survey in schools that participated in the 2012 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
