With 171 members, the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes is the leading international body working on the implementation of global transparency and exchange of information standards around the world.
Since the G20 declared the end of banking secrecy in 2009, the international community has achieved great success in the fight against offshore tax evasion. Working through the Global Forum, countries and jurisdictions have implemented robust standards that have prompted an unprecedented level of transparency in tax matters.
Voluntary disclosure programmes, offshore tax investigations and related measures have helped identify close to EUR 126 billion in additional revenues so far.
Our members have received nearly 450 000 requests for information since 2009, enabling the identification or collection of at least EUR 12.8 billion in additional tax.
Information on over 123 million financial accounts, covering total assets of almost EUR 12 trillion, was exchanged automatically in 2022.
