The OECD with the support of the European Commission and the German Marshall Fund of the United States organized a Policy Dialogue on Aid for Trade during 3-4 November 2008 in Paris at the OECD Conference Centre. This two-day event brought together policy makers, development practitioners and academics from developed and developing countries to discuss how best to help developing countries to build trade capacity and address supply-side constraints so that they can  realize the full benefits of integration in the world economy. The topics discussed ranged from the rationale to increase Aid for Trade spending and the key implementation and effectiveness challenges to the evaluation and monitoring of Aid for Trade. Providers of South-South co-operation shared some of their experiences and information on how best to support developing countries’ trade capacity.

This meeting was a follow-up to the 2006 OECD Policy Dialogue with non Members on Aid for Trade, the conclusions of which had highlighted the need for more knowledge dissemination and development of best practices.
