Research and Innovation in PISA

About Research and Innovation in PISA

Since 2012, PISA has assessed students in an innovative domain in every cycle. The innovative domain assessments target interdisciplinary, 21st century competences (e.g. creative thinking), providing PISA countries/economies with a more comprehensive outlook on their students’ ‘readiness for life’. This work drives innovation not only in what PISA assesses, but also in the test format and in how results are reported.

The Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) programme established by the PISA Governing Board in 2018 explores how different areas of the assessment programme (e.g. test design, scoring methodologies) can be improved.

PISA 2025

Learning in the Digital World

The PISA 2025 Learning in the Digital World assessment will provide international data on students’ capacity to engage in an iterative process of knowledge building and problem solving using computational tools. The data will strengthen our understanding of the skills and attitudes students need to become autonomous learners in increasingly digital education and work environments.

Creative Problem Solving

The PISA 2012 Creative Problem Solving assessment provides internationally comparable data on students' capacity to understand and resolve problem situations where a method of solution is not immediately obvious. It includes the willingness to engage with such situations in order to achieve one’s potential as a constructive and reflective citizen.
