Latvia takes first step in accession discussions with OECD

Latvia      24/2/2014 – Latvia has taken an important first step in accession discussions with the OECD by delivering an Initial Memorandum.

Delivered by Latvia’s State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrejs Pildegovičs on 14 February 2014, the Initial Memorandum sets out Latvia’s position on some 250 OECD legal instruments.  This will allow the launch of the technical reviews in 21 OECD committees examining Latvia’s legislation, policy and practice to assess its alignment with OECD standards and best practices.

The OECD opened accession discussions with Latvia on 29 May 2013  and an Accession Roadmap, setting out the terms, conditions and process for accession, was adopted by the OECD Council on 15 October 2013 .
