POLICY PROJECTS

Health Workforce

We advise countries on how to meet future demand for health professionals and how to manage the supply of health workers, by reviewing policies related to education and training, continuous professional development, geographic distribution and immigration.

Antimicrobial resistance

‌Antimicrobial resistance is rapidly becoming a top health problem that could pose a significant challenge to the functioning of healthcare systems and their budget in OECD and G20 countries.

Healthcare Quality

‌As health spending rises, there is pressure to ensure that resources help people live healthier lives. Most OECD countries have seen increased public interest in ensuring that patients receive care that is safe, effective, and responsive to their needs.

Health Systems Characteristics

Qualitative information on health financing and coverage, healthcare provision, governance and resource allocation  have been collected for the third time by the OECD in 2016. Online access to underlying data is provided through a user-friendly tool for the first time.

Universal Health Coverage

The OECD monitors and evaluates key aspects of universal health coverage, and assesses the future sustainability of universal health systems. OECD country experiences can also offer valuable lessons for other countries seeking to attain universal health coverage.

Pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceuticals have undoubtedly contributed to improvements in life expectancy and quality of life of many patients, but recent trends on increased spending and soaring launch prices of new medicines raise a number of concerns.

Health statistics

‌The OECD carries out work on health data and indicators to improve international comparisons and economic analyses of health systems.

Health publications

‌The OECD issues a wide array of publications based on a range of policy areas and statistics. See here for the full listing of our publications. We also have a range of in-depth health studies published as Health Working Papers.
