    How green is our development assistance? Thematic evaluation of the Belgian cooperation in the field of environment

    This evaluation covers Belgian ODA over the 2002-2012 first environment strategy paper period. The evaluation concludes that the environmental consideration of the Belgian Development Cooperation is giving positive but unquantifiable results. Pressure on the environment of cooperation activities has been reduced and the conditions for sustainable environmental management have been improved.

    Évaluation d’impact des foyers améliorés au Burkina Faso

    L’IOB a évalué dans cette étude l’impact de l’usage des foyers améliorés à des fins domestiques ainsi que pour le brassage de la bière artisanale dans deux villes du Burkina Faso. Si l’impact sur la charge de travail des femmes et sur la santé s’est révélé négligeable, les foyers améliorés permettent en revanche de réduire les dépenses d’énergie et d’économiser chaque année un large volume de bois de chauffe.

    This performance evaluation report assesses the performance and impact of the program and generates a series of findings, lessons and recommendations to contribute in the future design and implementation of similar ADB projects. Overall, this evaluation assessed the program less than successful.

    Impact Evaluation of Improved Cooking Stoves in Burkina Faso

    Over 500 million households worldwide rely on biomass for daily cooking. Wood energy is also used for small industrial processes. Fuel efficient cooking stoves are seen as low-cost solution to help reduce greenhouse gases, improve indoor air quality, relieve the daily workload of women and to reduce expenditure on energy.

    IOB Study Newsletter : Renewable Energy: Access and Impact - A systematic literature review

    Although this systematic literature review has produced a number of general findings, there is still a great deal of scope for high-quality research into the effects of renewable energy in the development context. There are hardly any impact studies on biogas or pico hydropower and very few studies that monitor the long-term effects of changes in access to energy sources.
