El Salvador participates actively in the OECD-IDB Latin American Competition Forum and the OECD Global Forum on Competition. It also hosted the 4th meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Competition Forum in 2008.

El Salvador underwent a peer review of its competition law and policy in 2019. The Peer Review on El Salvador assesses the effectiveness of its competition regime with a focus on current policy and enforcement; and the evolution of competition policy over the last few years.

El Salvador was one of the nine countries reviewed in this 2012 follow-up study which focuses on two specific themes:

  • the impact of the authority’s work on pro-competitive regulatory reforms
  • the application of case prioritisation and selection criteria.

El Salvador’s competition regime was examined for the first time in 2008 during the 6th meeting of OECD-IDB Latin American Competition Forum held in Panama.

This report, officially launched in El Salvador later that year by OECD’s Secretary General Angel Gurría, provides an in-depth analysis of its competition practices and sets out recommendations on how to improve government policy and the local competition authority's enforcement / advocacy practices.
