Chile, the first South American country to join the OECD, officially became a member on 7 May 2010. In addition to actively participating in OECD competition meetings, Chile hosted the 7th meeting of the OECD-IDB Latin American and Caribbean Competition Forum in 2009.

This report was prepared as part of the process of Chile’s accession to OECD Membership. The report describes the policy foundations, substantive competition law and enforcement experience, institutional structure as well as treatment of competition issues in regulatory / legislative processes. The review also examines these findings under three assessment themes: the current situation of competition policy and enforcement; the magnitude and direction of change in competition policy over the last 5-10 years; the extent of conformity with the particular OECD competition recommendations.

Chile’s competition regime was first reviewed in 2003 during the first meeting of the OECD-IDB Latin American Competition Forum held in Paris.
This report provides a first in-depth analysis of its competition practices including a chapter on different sectors and sets out recommendations on how to improve government policy and the local competition authority's enforcement and advocacy practices. The report also includes an update that explains steps that Chile and its competition authority have taken since the country review in April 2003.
