OECD-India Experts Forum on Corporate Governance

In focus

Company Groups in India (2022)

Like in other advanced and emerging markets, company groups are a prevalent phenomenon in India, and the number of subsidiaries has more than tripled over the past 15 years. While there are good reasons for formation of company groups, company groups raise regulatory challenges. The SEBI, the securities regulator in India, has taken policy measures to address issues relating to company groups. This report, developed by the OECD and the SEBI, presents the main trends in company groups and regulatory approach in India.

About the Forum

Launched in 2011, the OECD-India Experts Forum on Corporate Governance supports policy makers by assessing key market practices and policy trends that may be detrimental to sound corporate governance. It also supports implementation of good practices by offering recommendations and policy options based on comparative analysis. The Forum facilitates closer engagement of India in the regular work of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee and continued involvement in the OECD-Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is the main partner, with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, stock exchanges and professional associations also participating. The Government of Japan provides financial support.
