2023 offers unprecedented momentum to advance the contribution of cities and regions to the SDGs. In July 2023, the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will feature an in-depth review of the progress on SDG11 (Sustainable cities and communities), including in terms of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. This is a critical opportunity to leverage the potential of decentralised development co-operation and city-to-city partnerships in achieving the 2030 Agenda, take stock of progress on SDG 11, and harness the role of cities in shaping more sustainable food systems for the future.
