Local Employment and Economic Development (LEED Programme)

The 2nd Festival of Economics in Trento “Human Capital, Social Capital”, 30 May -3 June 2007

The city of Trento hosted for the second time the Festival of Economics which focused this year on issues related to human and social capital.  The event was organised in cooperation with the OECD Trento Centre for Local Development.
The successful formula of last year with attractive meeting places and numerous initiatives designed for families was continued. In fact the invited experts were encouraged by the informal atmosphere to abandon political speak for a more personal style of communication.

The 2nd Festival of Economics was an opportunity to meet outstanding economists, legal experts, anthropologists, historians, philosophers, sociologists, linguists, journalists, communications experts and entrepreneurs.  Among this very prestigious crowd were present - the Nobel prize-winner Gary Becker and the Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi.

The OECD actively contributed to this event with the participation of:

  • Brian KEELEY, Directorate for Public Affairs and Communications, session on "Human Capital:  how what you know shapes your life"
  • Francesca FROY, LEED Programme, session on "Local Solutions for the Integration of Immigrants:  Valorising Human Capital"
  • John MARTIN, Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, session on "School-to-work:  New Challenges for OECD countries"
