The LEED Programme co-organised a seminar on employment, economic development and local governance in Lithuania with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, in co-operation with the European Commission. The objective was to identify the main economic and employment development issues in the country, to stimulate exchange of views with neighbouring Baltic rim countries, and spark an active participation of the country representatives in LEED activities and policy debate.
The outcomes of the seminar will feed into the broader activity on local governance and employment of the LEED Programme and its Centre for Local Development in Central and Eastern Europe, based in Trento, Italy, where a major conference on these issues will be held on 6-8 June 2005. The results of work in Vilnius will be published in an OECD publication.
