Local Employment and Economic Development (LEED Programme)

Capacity building seminar on “Evaluation as a Tool for Local Development Strategy Building” Trento, Italy, 10-12 July 2006

As a response to the demand for a support to local development evaluations articulated by the CEE and SEE countries the LEED Programme of the OECD and its Trento Centre held a two day capacity building seminar focusing on how policy makers and practitioners can use evaluation to better design and deliver local development strategies. The event took place on 10-12 July, 2006 in Trento, Italy. The seminar brought together policy makers and practitioners from the CEE and SEE countries allowing for discussion i) how to best introduce and implement prior assessment so that it serves as a tool for local strategy design and delivery ii) how to best support the local level so that evaluation becomes an opportunity for learning and stops being perceived as a threat.

The seminar was organised within the framework of the OECD Trento Centre for Local Development, which focuses on local development capacity building in Central, East and South East European countries.
30 participants were selected among experienced policy makers and practitioners working in the area of regional and local development strategy building and delivery in Central East and South Eastern Europe.
