Unpacking ‘Planning’: What and Who Matters to Young People Leaving Care (March 2024)
Dr Peter Appleton, part-time visiting fellow at the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Essex presents findings from his upcoming book, What Matters and Who Matters to Young People Leaving Care: A New Approach to Planning (2024) Policy Press, Bristol [Presentation]. Dr Appleton explores the question how do young people transitioning from out of home care plan their future lives? He shares some ideas about informal everyday planning which have arisen from two intensive qualitative research studies with care-experienced young adults undertaken by Essex University. Dr Appleton’s book is due out in late March 2024, and will be free and Open Access (thanks to Essex University).

What role should care experienced people play in transforming care systems? The care experienced perspective (November 2023)
Duncan Dunlop, a care system reform specialist discusses with three care experienced people, Thomas Carlton, Jonny Hoyle and Elisha Mulvaney their multiple perspectives of growing up in, and now working in a system that is failing care experienced people. They reflect on what would make real change happen and what role care experienced people should play in that.
