Data on food systems

Data and evidence are essential for developing better policies for food systems. You will find below a selection of OECD key indicators related to food systems, with links to the full datasets.

> OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook database
The OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook is an annual assessment of trends in national, regional and global agricultural commodity markets. This database includes detailed commodity information used to prepare the projections, as well as the main underlying trends in key macro-economic variables and population.

> Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS)
The Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) seeks to improve food market transparency and policy responses to ensure greater food security. This database offers detailed information on production, utilization, trade, and stocks of major agricultural commodities.

> Health risks dataset

  • Featured Indicator: Overweight and obesity

The overweight or obese population is defined as the inhabitants with excessive weight presenting health risks because of the high proportion of body fat. Almost 60% of people are overweight in OECD area.

> Agricultural output dataset

  • Featured Indicator: Meat consumption

Meat consumption is related to living standards, diet, livestock production and consumer prices. While the global meat industry provides food and a livelihood for billions of people, it also has significant environmental and health consequences for the planet.

> Agri-environmental dataset

  • Nutrient balance (indicator)

Nutrient balances provide information about environmental pressures. A nutrient deficit (negative value) indicates declining soil fertility. A nutrient surplus (positive data) indicates a risk of polluting soil, water and air.

> Agricultural policy dataset

  • Agricultural support (indicator)

Agricultural support is defined as the annual monetary value of gross transfers to agriculture from consumers and taxpayers arising from government policies that support agriculture, regardless of their objectives and economic impacts.

> Fisheries dataset

  • Fish landings (indicator)

Fish landings are defined as the catches of marine fish landed in foreign or domestics ports. Marine capture fisheries landings are subject to changes in market demand and prices as well as the need to rebuild stocks to maximum sustainable yield levels in order to achieve long-term sustainable use of marine resources.
